China’s actions in response to new US tariffs have escalated trade tensions between the two biggest economies in the world.
Among other measures, Beijing has placed targeted tariffs on some American goods in retaliation for former President Donald Trump’s 10% duty on all Chinese imports.
Both parties have been applying and threatening tariffs on a variety of items since the start of the long-running trade war in 2018, which includes this most recent exchange.
A settlement is still pending, despite Trump’s stated plans to engage in negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The repercussions may be severe if China follows through with its planned actions on February 10.
