Despite lower oil prices in the global market, the public has not received any relief.

Islamabad: The federal government has increased the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel by Rs. 10 per liter, raising it from Rs. 60 to Rs. 70 per liter, effective March 16.

Despite global oil prices falling, the government has decided not to reduce fuel prices and instead maintained current rates. Petrol was expected to drop by Rs. 13 per liter, while diesel could have been Rs. 10 cheaper, but no relief was given.

The Prime Minister’s Office stated that an electricity price reduction package is under discussion.

Currently, petrol costs Rs. 255.63 per liter, while diesel is Rs. 258.64 per liter. Under Imran Khan’s government, global oil was $117 per barrel, and petrol was Rs. 150 per liter. Now, with oil at $64 per barrel, petrol still costs Rs. 250–260 per liter.
