Regarding the corruption of Bahria Town Land, the NAB files a reference against Malik Riaz.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of Pakistan has filed a reference against Malik Riaz, the owner of Bahria Town, his son, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the former chief minister of Sindh, and thirty other people, alleging that they caused the national treasury to lose more than Rs. 700 billion. The NAB Chairman, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Nazeer Ahmed, approved and signed the reference before sending it to the NAB court in Karachi. The accused has received letters from the court, which has accepted the referral for hearing.
The NAB claims that the accused unlawfully purchased land for Bahria Town in Karachi, causing the state to suffer enormous financial losses. Key persons mentioned in the reference include former chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, former local government minister and current information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Malik Riaz, his son, and a number of government officials.
The investigation into the unlawful purchase of land in Bahria Town, Karachi, expanded to a comprehensive probe beginning in late 2015. Ten years later, NAB has formally submitted the reference to the court. However, government agents believe that money laundering was used to transfer funds for Malik Riaz’s new project in Dubai, while Riaz has stated that he is being coerced into testifying.
