Amy Allen Makes History as First Woman to Win Best Songwriter Grammy

You could have sung along to one of the songs of the first female Grammy winner for best songwriter, even if you’ve never heard of her before.

The creator of many pop chart-topping songs, such as “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Please Please Please,” Amy Allen was nominated for co-writing songs with Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Timberlake, and Tate McRae.

In the third year since it became a separate category, Allen was one of four female nominees for Songwriter of the Year, non-classical.

During her victory speech, she emphasized the historical underappreciation of songwriters, saying, “Without us, there would be no songs for anyone to win awards for.”
